BHG Recycle Process

All batteries collected by BHG Power Storage Solutions will be recycled as part of the Government promulgated Environmental Health and Safety Act. The onus to dispose of these batteries becomes BHG Powers responsibility. A Certificate of Recycling will avoid future legal implications to the company in the event the third-party contractor does not comply with the law. Without such certificate, and as the owner and user of the battery, the Government can pursue various actions against individuals or the company.

BHG Power is registered by one of South Africa’s largest smelter, in terms of section 23 of the Atmospheric Pollution Prevention Act – 1965 for lead processes. The smelters also hold ISO 14001, ISO 9001 and OHSAS 18001 Certifications and Accreditation for their Integrated Management System. Please note that a Certificate of Recycling should be required containing the following information:

• Contractor name and address
• Battery type and quantity disposed
• Date of removal
• Date of disposal
• Location and number of the EPA certified recycling facility

Most types of batteries can be recycled. However, some batteries are recycled more readily than others, such as lead-acid batteries. Nearly 90% of all lead–acid batteries are recycled. The lead in a lead–acid battery can be recycled. Elemental lead is toxic and should, therefore, be kept out of the waste stream.
