Outdoor lighting, assembled into a lamp for fixtures, offers LED options with longer lifespans and higher efficiency than incandescent or fluorescent lamps.

Unlike fluorescent lamps that require warm-up, LED lights provide immediate brightness, though they often come with a higher initial cost.

Since 2010, some LED lights have replaced higher wattage bulbs. For example, a 16-watt LED bulb was claimed to be as bright as a 150-watt halogen lamp. Standard bulbs emit light at an efficiency of about 14 to 17 lumens per watt depending on size and voltage.

Including streets, roadways, and parking lots, has traditionally used metal and high-pressure sodium sources. These sources are energy-efficient but have limitations.

Recent advances in LED technology offer new options for outdoor lighting with potential advantages over traditional sources. Well-designed LED lights can provide clear, bright illumination using less energy and offering a longer lifespan, up to 50,000 hours or more compared to 15,000 to 35,000 hours for traditional bulbs.
