LED lamps, or light-emitting diode lamps, are assembled LED products used in lighting fixtures. They have a longer lifespan and higher electrical efficiency compared to incandescent and most fluorescent lamps. Some LED chips can emit over 300 lumens per watt. The LED lamp market is expected to grow significantly in the next decade.

Unlike fluorescent lamps, LEDs reach full brightness instantly without warm-up time. However, the initial cost of LED lamps is usually higher. Over time, LED dye and packaging materials may degrade, reducing light output.

In 2010, LED lamps started replacing higher wattage bulbs. For example, a 16-watt LED bulb was claimed to be as bright as a 150-watt halogen lamp. Standard incandescent bulbs emit light at an efficiency of about 14 to 17 lumens per watt.

Newer light fittings are designed for LED lamps, eliminating the need for each bulb to contain circuitry to operate from mains voltage. LED tube lights, designed to fit in fixtures for fluorescent tubes, can be a drop-in replacement with appropriate ballast or require rewiring of the fixtures. LED tube lights are generally compatible with T8, T10, or T12 tube designations.
